Winter fishing
We can go winter fishing on open water till New Year time, as experience of the latest years shows. It is an interesting jig fishing by big baits in pikes' hiding winter places weighing 3-7 kg or more, fishing zander by jig and trolling, zherekh in snags and by trolling, perch, Volga zander, sabrefish, bream by worm baits, vobla, bora, silver bream, roach and redeye.
Usually ice forms in the end of December on eriks Kazachii, Popovskii, Shavraur Khora, Kirpichny, Schuchii and on ilmens, in the middle of January it forms on Mitinka and Akhtuba. It's the last days of predator fishing by balancers, spoon-baits and tackle (it's called 'jerlitsa' in Russian), baits and 'donks'. Famous bream places are near the camp, and every year it is the filming spot for the «Fish with us» TV show. On Schuchii erik in January 2007 a record pike weighing 13.2 kg was caught by 'jerlitsa'. Winter fishing on Volga is possible only during long strong frosts.
